Year 8 Gifted and Talented STEM students were invited to take part in a "Teen Tech" day at The University of Manchester last half term with 29 other schools and acadmies from Greater Manchester. The Teen Tech experience is a highly interactive event designed to inspire young people about the contemporary world of Science, Engineering and Techology. The day was hosted by Maggie Philbin with the support of Engineering companies from all over the North West.

Kearsley Academy was teamed up with an ambassador from Astrazeneca who followed them around for the day as they took part in several actvities and challenges. The day was split into 3 parts; Innovation Zone, Insight Exhibition and Challenge Zone. We are proud to report back that our students recieved awards in all 3 areas:

  1. Innovation Zone - students task was to design an app. Students were awarded the "Best TeamWork Award".

  2. Insight Exhibition - students explored stands and tried their hand at different jobs. Students were awarded "Best questions and ideas".

  3. Challenge Zone - students took part in logistical challenges and 1 of our students, Tinisha Smith, out of nearly 300 students, won an IPAD for her personality, perseverence and presentation skills.

We were presented with our awards at the end of the day and praised for our contribution. Students returned to KA intriuged by what their futures ay look like and the opportunities they may have.

We are already in the process of planning further STEM opportunities for KS3 and KS4 students next term. Stay tuned!
