hartlepool7reduced.jpg On May 1st 2015, a selected group of year 7 and 8 boys competed in the Northern Education Trust Football Tournament at the home of Hartlepool Utd Football Club. The format was a league competition with the 2 top teams progressing to the finals. Kearsley was in a strong group with tournament favourites Dyke House and last year’s runners up North Shore Academy.
The team started well beating Grange Academy 2 – 0 with Alex Heaton and Liam Mayor having scored the 2 goals. Liam showed what a great predator he is in attack by seizing an opportunity to delicately chip the Grange Academy keeper from just inside the box.
The other 3 games didn’t go according to plan and with a possibility of playing for 3rd/4th place we were out-played in the final game by North Shore Academy. Special mentions relating to the team performance goes to Ben Greenwood who tirelessly worked hard in midfield, Finlay Chisnell who pulled off some fantastic saves to keep the team in the games and Tom Mort for marshalling the team and showing what a cool player he is under pressure. Tom received the Kearsley Academy player of the tournament which was decided amongst the team, coaching staff and organisers of the event.
Team morale was boosted after disappointing results with the fantastic harmonies on the bus back from Levi Arden and Alex Heaton, taking us through a compilation of greatest hits from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s.
Another great day, looking forward to next year’s tournament.
